Accessing Files Example
Connecting

Enter the online identity of the host you wish to connect to on the hostyourself.net home page.
The Host Yourself Network first locates the host you specify in a database of IP addresses.
The connection to the host is then tested. If a connection can not be established, an error will be returned to the user.
Assuming the connection is ok the Host Yourself Network connects you to the host.
Signing in

The next step is to sign in.
MyDiskServer supports an unlimited number of users with unique usernames and passwords. Each user may have access to specific files and folders. This can all be configured within MyDiskServer.
Browsing files

Navigating through shared files is easy.
Files are listed down the page alphabetically, folders first. By clicking a folder the contents are displayed.
To view a file, click the file and it will be transferred and opened.
Downloading multiple files

You may wish to download a number of files.
To achieve this task, multiple files can be selected. Upon clicking Download selected, MyDiskServer dynamically creates a compressed ZIP archive and sends it to you.
Browsing images

If a folder contains images, MyDiskServer can automatically generate thumbnail images.
This makes it possible to locate a specific image without downloading the full resolution versions.
When a folder contains images a new option appears to view images.
Streaming Audio

If a folder contains audio, MyDiskServer can automatically generate a playlist.
This enables audio players, such as Microsoft Media Player, to stream an album directly across the Internet.
When a folder contains audio files a new option appears to stream audio.
Uploading files

Sending files to a computer is also made easy using MyDiskServer.
You can specify multiple files at a time and, using the built in upload helper, send files of any size back to your computer.
File uploading via this method can be done from behind firewalls on even the most restrictive networks!
Hosting a web site

MyDiskServer provides the ideal starting point for hosting your own web site.
If a folder contains a web site a new option appears to view the folder as a web page. All links and images will work as expected.
If the folder is shared to the guest user, anyone can view your site.
The plugin, AutoShowIndex.class, is recommended if you wish MyDiskServer to function like a web server. You can find more information about this plugin on the plugin's page.
Host Yourself
The host yourself network opens up a number of exciting possibilities. By using MyDiskServer and hosting yourself you can securely access all your files from anywhere. You can also share files with others. Working with files on multiple computers becomes easy.
Remember, although the service is FREE a small donation to help keep the service running is appreciated.
