JFirewallTest

JFirewallTest - Test the security of your firewall

JFirewallTest is a free Java webstart application that tests for holes or open ports in your firewall.

Unlike other solutions, JFirewallTest is a two stage testing procedure that tests all 65,536 ports very rapidly.

After testing is complete, JFirewallTest will present a page of results reporting exactly what ports are open and accessible to others on the Internet. The list includes information about common services associated with each port and an estimate of the vulnerability.

JFileRecovery

JFileRecovery - Recover files from damaged media

JFileRecovery is a free Java webstart application that recovers files from damaged hard drives, CDs, DVDs and Flash media very rapidly.

JFileRecovery is based around the fact that reading data from damaged areas requires more time. JFileRecovery works by sequentially reading blocks of data from a file and skipping blocks that take a long time to read. By adjusting the block size and and time permitted to read a block (timeout), data can be read from severely damaged media. If the file is visible within the operating system, there is a very good chance that JFileRecovery can copy the file to another location.

JFileRecovery provides the ability to retry reading from damaged areas. A new block size and timeout can be specified in an attempt to obtain as much data from the damaged media as possible. You can even remove media, clean it and re-reinsert between attempts.

JScreenFix

JScreenFix - Repair stuck pixels and screen burn-in from LCD and plasma screens

JScreenFix is a Java applet and Java webstart application that helps re-energise stuck pixels and remove burn-in on LCD and plasma screens by randomly switching on and off red, green and blue colour cells very rapidly.

JScreenFix works on each colour cell individually in an un-coordinated fashion which means it is less stressful on the screen's power circuitry and far less likely to cause photosensitive epilepsy than other solutions.
